THE ROLE:

Join us as a Transport Planner within our central planning team.

 

The ideal candidate will have experience in transport planning, with a particular focus on the general haulage sector. As part of the Central Planning Team, you will oversee the efficient, safe, and compliant scheduling of a fleet of over 138 vehicles across various UK locations. Your key responsibilities include maximizing vehicle utilization throughout the week, securing return loads to minimize empty mileage, and ensuring that all plans adhere to both the base plan model and drivers' hours regulations. This role offers significant opportunities for career progression.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

 

You should be experienced and proficient in computer applications, with knowledge of software packages like Mandata and Microlise being beneficial but not mandatory, as comprehensive training will be provided.

 

As the team grows and becomes more established, shift patterns will include weekend and occasional lone working. Below is a non-exhaustive list of day-to-day responsibilities for this role:

 

  • Ensuring all planned routes comply with the Working Time Directive (WTD) and drivers' hours regulations.
  • Creating cost-effective operational transport plans daily
  • Reviewing customer shipments transferred from BluJay to ManData by depot, identifying and addressing any issues like cancellations.
  • Matching customer shipments with the appropriate journey or shift within the base transport plan, optimizing time and geography.
  • Dragging and dropping customer shipments to create journeys and shifts in ManData for each depot, aligning with the base plan.
  • Identifying gaps in shipment availability due to cancellations or other issues and working alongside the other planners to ensure the plan is maximized.
  • Communicating with depot teams throughout the day regarding their resource availability and ability to meet the plan
  • Providing daily feedback to the National Planning Manager regarding resource availability and shipment suitability issues at each depot
  • Preparing an end-of-day report for the National Planning Manager, detailing shift fulfilment by depot, planned revenue per shift, and highlighting any issues, risks, or concerns.
