JOB TITLE: Network Operations – Level 4 - HYBRID
Salary: £24,500 per annum
Hours: 35 hours per week
Duration: 2 to 4 years whilst studying towards a qualification from Level 3 (equivalent to A-level) to Level 6 (equivalent to a degree)
Who can apply: There are different entry requirements depending on the apprenticeship level:
A minimum of 5 GCSE’s grade A*-C (or 9-4 on the new grading system) or equivalent including Maths and English by the time this programme starts in September 2025.
There may be more specific requirements for certain schemes. Some apprenticeships may require you to have studied a specific subject at school or college, for example. Any additional requirements like this will be made clear on the apprenticeship adverts when the schemes open.
Location: Hybrid - A blend of working from home and your nominated hub office, we have hubs in London, Bristol, Manchester and Oxford.
Network Operations Apprentice - the role will require some field engineering work, at our PoP (Points of Presence) sites as required.

About the role:
This entry-level role is designed for individuals with a strong interest in network infrastructure, troubleshooting, delivery and support. As a Network Operations Apprentice, you will gain hands-on experience in maintaining and monitoring network systems, assisting senior engineers in delivering services, resolving issues, and supporting day-to-day operational tasks. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your technical skills and begin a rewarding career in network operations.
Responsibilities will include:
- You will be monitoring the network
- Be a troubleshooter
- Responsible for incident management
- You will assist in customer support
- Be part of system maintenance
- Keep track of documentation
Key Skills and Experience:
- You will have clear and effective verbal and written communication, with the ability to document issues and escalate problems when needed.
- The ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and handle multiple responsibilities.
- You have basic computer skills and IT literacy
- You will have a strong interest in troubleshooting technical issues with a logical and methodical approach, and the ability to work well in a team environment and follow guidance from experienced professionals.
- If you have experience with network monitoring tools or basic network troubleshooting it would be advantageous.
Qualifications & training
- To apply for a Level 3 apprenticeship, you must have a GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
- For Levels 4 and above, you must also have two A Levels.
If you have any of the following it would be advantageous.
- Juniper Associate Qualification
- Cisco Associate Qualification
- Security Associate Qualification
- Other vendor equivalent qualifications
- Knowledge of ITIL principles

The recruitment process involves the below:
- We receive your application and review it in line with our requirements for the role
- You will be notified via email if you have been either shortlisted or not eligible for the next stage
- A member of the Jisc Talent Acquisition team will be in touch to arrange an initial chat with you if shortlisted
- You will then be asked to record a short video responding to a choice of scenarios allowing us to get to know you better
- Thereafter you will be invited to an online interview with one of our line managers and a member of the Talent acquisition team or you will be contacted to advise you have not been selected
