Freedom Major Projects team are seeking a new Operations Manager to take ownership of the day to day delivery of a portfolio of EHV/HV/MV projects in the 11-132kV+ range. This will include a mixture of Substation, Underground Cable and Overhead Line projects, as we expand our base of projects following a number of key wins and a strong pipeline.

The projects will be a mixture of Design and Design & Build across a wide and varied range of clients and sectors. The portfolio will be delivered by your team of Project Managers who report directly to you. The project teams include Commercial, Planning, Estimation, Construction and Engineering personnel.

 

Some of the key deliverables in this role will include: 

 

  • Managing a monthly rota of Project Progress, Programme and Commercial reviews, seeking and documenting updates from project teams
  • Identifying, owning and managing any issues by escalation / problem shooting to a successful conclusion.
  • Pre-emptively identifying any potential blockers or issues and moving to prevent them materialising
  • Progress and CVR reviews to the Ops Director and Board
  • Carrying out 121's with direct reports, setting goals and challenging the team to deliver.
  • Overseeing monthly Applications and Invoicing, Forecasting and Cashflow in conjunction with senior Commercial staff
  • Overseeing Monthly Safety Audits and Safety Cascades / Briefs / Campaigns
  • Client Relationship Management
  • Upholding Freedom Safety and Quality standards and processes
  • Identifying business and process improvements and training/development opportunities
  • Helping influence and shape the way your teams and the division deliver high profile, complex projects.
  • Helping determine future resourcing plans
  • Working and building relationships with internal divisions, suppliers and subcontractors.

 

What we’re looking for:


This role would be ideal for existing Operations Managers, Senior/Contracts Managers, Programme Managers or Senior PMs.  Full support will be provided from the Operations Director and Divisional Director. Strong Development and Training opportunities accompany this role. In addition, you will require:

  • This role will require the candidate to both have an eye for detail and be willing to dive in, whilst retaining an overarching strategy view of the portfolio and think tactically.
  • Candidates will need to demonstrate direct relevant experience of managing a team of direct reports and a portfolio/programme of projects/contracts
  • Strong Electrical/HV Engineering and Construction knowledge is important, but the highest priority is the ability to manage a broad team in a confident, tightly controlled manner, multi tasking and planning ahead, working to minimise risk and ensure successful delivery across a wide range of projects.
  • Familiarity with the principles of a range of forms of Contracts is preferred, such as NEC, JCT, FIDIC, MF1 etc
  • The ability to confidently understand and manage Commercial forecasting and Financial metrics is preferred
  • The ability to address any uncertainty by proactively seeking guidance and support from your colleagues
  • The ability to identify, understand, quantify and eliminate/resolve/mitigate issues when they materials
