Summary

We have a rare and exciting opportunity for an experienced Civil/Structural Engineer to join the senior management team of our Professional Services division as a Senior Partner.  The main purpose of the role is to lead and grow the Civil Design Business, develop our team and service offerings and to shape the strategic direction of the civil design business unit moving forward.

Our Civil Design Services team strives to be a leader within the electrical engineering marketplace offering high quality and innovative civil and structural design services to support high voltage electrical infrastructure projects. This exciting opportunity will see you technically and operationally leading the team by example to become the first-choice strategic partner delivering high quality, innovate and cost effective civil and structural design solutions together with the associated additional quantity surveying and clerk of works services. We also provide the above services for design and build construction projects carried out by the rest of the wider Freedom group

The main duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure the business delivers strong health and safety performance and compliance, including completion of internal safety audits and inspections.
  • Ensure the business delivers and maintains strong quality performance and compliance, including completion of internal audits and inspections and external ISO14001, ISO45001 and ISO9001 audits.
  • Providing Leadership to the Civil Design Services team with the support of the current 5 direct principal reports, a team of 27 direct employees and a small number of contract staff.
  • Developing and mentoring the team to encourage a continuous improvement culture leading to progression, particularly for our newer team members including graduates and apprentices.
  • Developing key policies and processes to align to the changing requirements of the business as well as driving performance.
  • Building a strong reputation for effective delivery of our services both internally and externally.
  • Providing expert technical leadership and support across our Civil Design Services portfolio to our team and our clients.
  • Leading key tenders, bids and contract negotiations.
  • Working collaboratively with the senior partners of the Electrical Design, Surveys and Inspections and Environmental and Land Management divisions
  • Influencing a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and clients.
  • Supporting, maintaining and improving relationships with existing clients.
  • Providing clients with the required contractual monthly reporting output statistics and data.
  • Actively pursuing new work leads and attracting new clients.
  • Ensuring statutory and policy compliance for our clients.
  • Management of monthly and annual budgets and forecasts.
  • Management and reporting on the operational and financial performance of Civil Design Services to the Professional Services Division and Executive leadership.
  • Active member of the Professional Services Senior Management Team working with the Managing Director to deliver our business growth strategy

What we're looking for:

  • Highly experienced in managing the delivery of client services covering a range of civil and structural projects;
  • Experience and knowledge of the civil and structural engineering marketplace.
  • Experience and knowledge of working within our key client sector markets.
  • Demonstrable experience in a leadership position with strong people management skills.
  • Good commercial and business development skills.
  • Qualified to degree level in a relevant subject or relevant experience
  • A chartered member of a relevant professional body is essential (The Institution of Structural Engineers or The Institution of Civil Engineers)
