We have exciting opportunities for enthusiastic people to join our Freedom team. Here you will learn from the industry’s best, working with teams installing and constructing electrical power distribution and transmission systems from 400V to 132kV in a manner that delivers safe, high workmanship quality and fit for purpose networks for the customer and which promotes the company in a positive light at all times.
As an NG Bailey apprentice you will:
- Train at one of the top performing colleges or training providers in the country.
- Learn about our award-winning approach to working safely.
- Work indoors, outdoors, and occasionally at height.
- Be prepared for early starts and travel away from home when necessary.
- Develop great working relationships with some of the industry’s most talented people.
- Have a strong support network giving you the chance to build your confidence and use your initiative.
You will learn to:
- The installation of ground mounted and structure mounted power system components including cable systems, switchgear, transformers, busbars, relay panels and associated equipment in substations operating at up to 132kV.
- Read and understand engineering drawings, wiring and circuit diagrams.
- Inspect and test electrical installations between 240V and 415V.
- Diagnose and rectify faults on a range of circuits and equipment.
- Use small hand tools such as and including, screwdrivers, pliers, grips, hammers, saws, etc.
- Operate electrical 110v and battery powered tools such as SDS drills, combi drills, impact drivers, disc grinders etc.
- Install cable tray containment, racking systems required multicores, HV cables including installation of cantilever un-strut brackets.
- Installation of multicore cables on prepared cable trays and in cable troughs within substation compounds, including relay rooms and the glanding & termination of such cables, wiring of electrical relay panels, battery chargers, outdoor plant etc….

You will attend college to complete the Level 3 Apprenticeship in Electrical Installation. In addition, you will regularly attend in house training and development as part of the programme.
To apply you need:
To be aged 18 or over to work within high voltage power networks.
To have a valid UK driving licence.
5 GCSEs (or equivalent) Grade C/4 or above in English Language, Maths, Science, plus 2 other subjects at grade C/4 or above.
