We have exciting opportunities for enthusiastic people to join our Freedom team. Here you will learn from the industry’s best, working with teams installing and constructing electrical power distribution and transmission systems from 400 volts to 132 kilovolts. You will deliver safe, high quality and fit for purpose networks for the customer, always promoting the company in a positive light.

 

 

As an NG Bailey apprentice you will:

 

  • Train at one of the top performing colleges or training providers in the country.
  • Learn about our award-winning approach to working safely.
  • Work indoors, outdoors, and occasionally at height.
  • Be prepared for early starts and travel away from home when necessary.
  • Develop great working relationships with some of the industry’s most talented people.
  • Have a strong support network giving you the chance to build your confidence and use your initiative.

 

You will learn to:

 

  • Install ground mounted and structure mounted power system components including cable systems, switchgear, transformers, busbars, relay panels and associated equipment in substations operating up to 132kv.
  • Read and understand engineering drawings, wiring and circuit diagrams.
  • Inspect and test electrical installations between 240v and 415v.
  • Diagnose and rectify faults on a range of circuits and equipment.
  • Use small hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, grips, hammers, saws, etc.
  • Operate electrical battery powered tools such as SDS drills, combi drills, impact drivers, disc grinders etc.
  • Install cable tray containment, racking systems required multicores, HV cables including installation of cantilever un-strut brackets.
  • Install multicore cables on prepared cable trays and in cable troughs within substation compounds.

 

We are looking for people who:

 

  • Have a valid UK driving licence.
  • Are keen to learn.

  • Are organised and well prepared with excellent timekeeping and attendance.
  • Enjoy practical working with steady hand coordination.
  • Enjoy working in a team.
  • Can follow instructions and work under pressure.
  • Can act independently.
  • Have normal colour vision.
  • Are willing to travel and be away from home on a regular basis on.

 

You will attend college to complete the Level 3 Apprenticeship Power Network Craftsperson. In addition, you will regularly attend in house training and development as part of the programme.

 

To apply you need:

 

To be aged 18 or over to work within high voltage power networks.

 

To have a valid UK driving licence.

 

There is extensive travel and long period of working outside of region required for this role. 

 

Grade C/4 or above in Scottish National 5 or Scottish Intermediate (or equivalent) in English, Maths and Science, plus 2 other subjects at grade C/4 or above.

 

Please note, to be eligible for an apprenticeship you: 

 

  • Must be able to complete the apprenticeship within the required time, including the End-Point Assessment.
  • Must have a valid and eligible residency status and the right to work in England.
  • Must be ordinarily resident in the UK or its territories for at least 3 years before starting the apprenticeship.
