Summary

 

Freedom Professional Services are seeking an Senior Design Engineer (SCADA) to join our growing team and work on an array of complex and challenging engineering projects, helping to deliver the country’s Net Zero targets. Our projects span the complete energy system from generation, transmission, distribution and storage to load-end consumers in manufacturing, processing, data and recycling.

 

The successful candidate will be able to evidence a history of teamworking, career achievement, high-quality project and work experience to date, and can draw on their professional networks to gain key insights, new work leads, third-party support and second opinions.
 

Some of the key deliverables in this role will include:

 

  • Design, implement and maintain SCADA/communication systems for a variety of clients in sectors including utilities, oil and gas, manufacturing, industrial automation and various other communication networks. 
  • Configure and optimize network infrastructure &communication protocols such as IEC 61850; Distributed Network Protocol (DNP 3); Parallel Redundancy Protocol (PRP); Precision Time Protocol (PTP); Network Time Protocol (NTP); Simplified Network Time Protocol (NTP), Modbus,OPC, Profibus,etcfor seamless integration with field devices, including RTUs, PLCs, IEDs, etc, also ensure stable connectivity between SCADA centres &remote sites, and configure secure VPNs & remote access protocols to allow for safe, off-site monitoring and control. 
  • Understand client requirements & produce network architecture philosophy diagram, IED telecommunication diagram, SCADA & Telecommunications Panel design, Network IP allocation, I/O Schedules, Cable & Core schedules, etc. 
  • Assist with the setup and commissioning of SCADA systems at client sites, troubleshoot field devices and network communication issues, perform preventive and corrective maintenance on SCADA infrastructure and associated hardware. 
  • Efficiently design/develop the SCADA/communication systems (e.g., Ignition, Siemens WinCC, GE iFIX, etc) to ensure real-time data acquisition and control for critical infrastructure. 
  • Conduct system upgrades, testing, and validation for new features, components, and patches. 
  • Implement cybersecurity measures to safeguard SCADA systems against emerging threats. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth integration and deployment of SCADA systems. 
  • Provide technical documentation and training materials for system users and maintenance staff. 
  • Support on Protection & Control Design for Transmission &Distribution sector of utilities. 
  • Technically access the engineering problems and critically evaluate a range of technical solutions.  
  • Communicate effectively to demonstrate diligence, prioritize tasks, and ensure a thorough understanding of relevant legislation, including CDM and ESQCR. This knowledge will be pivotal in managing Transmission and Distribution network. 
  • Review and provide constructive feedback on the reports and drawings done by Junior Engineers, Mentor and guide Junior Engineers, fostering their professional growth. 
  • Adhere strictly to the company’s SHEQ requirements and GSOP, carrying out your roles and responsibilities with utmost dedication. 

 

What we’re looking for:

 

Senior engineers that join our team will need to have diverse skill sets to bring technical, ethical, social and management competence to every job that we work on, for all of our professional clients and key stakeholders. Strong budgetary and project management skills are required at this level, accompanied by good commercial knowledge of design and construction contract forms such as NEC, and experience of working withing the contract conditions.

 

The business proactively encourages chartership in engineering, and senior engineers are expected to be chartered or close to achieving chartership.

 

You must have Qualifications and experience in:

 

  • Degree in Engineering (Electrical preferable)
  • Chartered Status (Preferred): Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with a professional body such as the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) or the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE) is highly desirable.
  • Good understanding of CDM 2015 Regulations & ESQCR   
  • Full UK Driving License 
  • 11kV up to 400kV detailed design experience. 
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD is Essential 
  • CSCS (or similar – SHEA Power) Card Holder (Desirable) 
  • Health & Safety qualification (NEBOSH, IOSH or similar) (Desirable)
