Release and Deployment Engineer

The Release and Deployment Engineer will ensure the quality and efficiency of software releases. This includes performing quality assurance reviews, coordinating with various teams to determine release schedules, optimising deployment processes, maintaining environment records and communicating release activities to the business. The role will also involve carrying our technical deployments to test environments and production systems.
This is a full time, permanent role and can be based remotely within the UK, with occasional travel to our Cornwall head offices, as needed.
You'll help us by:
Working closely with the Release and Deployment Manager, you’ll perform quality assurance reviews of release candidate documentation, test plans and associated results. You’ll liaise with development teams, project managers, and business stakeholders to help determine release schedules.
To enhance deployment efficiency, you’ll combine multiple software changes into release packages. You will also be responsible for maintaining and communicating environment status, versioning, and usage records across the business. Configuring and maintaining test environments, you’ll ensure required integration components are present and available.
You’ll maintain environment records related to software versioning and usage, ensuring that all test environments are properly provisioned and maintained. You’ll utilise Azure DevOps pipelines for efficient build and deployment of release packages, planning a route to live for upcoming changes and deliverables in scope of the Release Management Process. Additionally, you’ll assess the risks associated with technical changes, providing mitigations to minimise risks throughout the release cycle.
You’ll produce formal Requests for Change (RFCs) for release packages and participate in Change Advisory Board (CAB) meetings. You’ll support the promotion of software across various environments, including Production, and will contribute to the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and best practice in technical deployment processes.
The skills you'll be sharing with the team:
- A relevant degree in Information Systems or Computer Sciences or equivalent relevant experience
- Experience in a Technical Services, IT support role or involvement in software development or deployment
- Experience of working to Change Management or Release and Deployment policies and procedures
- Operating to service levels; experience of working to ITIL standards
- ITIL v4 Foundation Qualification desirable
- Agile Certification
- Related Microsoft certifications
- Working knowledge of at least 4 products in the Microsoft technology stack; MS Server 2012 or above, MS Windows 10 or above, MS/Azure Active Directory, MS SQL Server, IIS, SharePoint, Azure DevOps, Dynamics F&O, Dynamics AX
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving skills
- Ability to act on own initiative
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritising and managing multiple tasks while meeting deadlines
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and quality
- A desire to keep up to date with Computing Technologies
Some out-of-hours work will be required to fulfil the responsibilities of the role
