People & Markets and Equities Reporter
GlobalCapital
GlobalCapital is the leading provider of insight and analysis for the primary capital markets.
For over 35 years, we have been helping investment banks, issuers, investors, law firms, rating agencies, tech platforms and regulators keep pace with the most important trends, challenges, and opportunities in the industry.
As a lively, trusted and reputable voice for capital markets participants, we deliver news and data that provide transparency into primary capital markets activity.
People & Markets and Equities Reporter (London)
GlobalCapital reporters produce a broad range of editorial content, mostly written, on their specialist sector of the capital markets, where they are also an ambassador for the organisation.
This reporter will work on the People & Markets and Equities sections of GlobalCapital, reporting market-wide news such as technology, digital bond issuance, people moves, investment banking strategy for People & Markets, and news on equity capital markets issuance for Equities.
This role is a fantastic opportunity for a journalist to write original copy and break news, to develop a deep understanding of complex, nuanced and hugely important financial markets, and to build relationships with senior and influential people.
Responsibilities
- Write GlobalCapital’s coverage of EMEA equity capital markets and contribute to its people and markets coverage. Identify the most important deals, themes, people moves and other industry news and provide the most engaging and accurate analysis possible to provide readers with a unique take on the markets.
- Contribute to the full range of GlobalCapital’s coverage — from hard news to analysis, to opinion, to features — in house style and to tight deadlines, to maintain our distinctive editorial voice and its reputation as a reliable and indispensable tool of working in capital markets.
- Build a broad number of deep relationships with key people in the capital markets and become part of the daily fabric of those markets, ensuring our understanding of our subject and our readers is better than those of any of our rivals and that we have as many sources for stories as possible.
- Be a voice of the People & Markets and Equities sections within GlobalCapital, pitching story ideas, championing special report ideas, providing insight and collaborating with the rest of the editorial team where appropriate.
- Provide cover for other reporters, where appropriate. This enables us to provide consistent coverage and helps to broaden the journalist’s skills.
- Represent the newspaper at industry events to provide coverage, build contacts and to become a recognised face in the capital markets.
- Contribute as required to GlobalCapital’s stable of podcasts.
Reporting Lines
Reports to the Corporates, Markets and Sustainability Editor, who is responsible for the People & Markets and Equities coverage.
Key Relationships
Works with senior editorial colleagues to produce market coverage. Although senior editorial staff guide the overall direction of coverage and have final say over what is covered, the reporter is expected to have his/her own ideas and, indeed, manage her/his own workload.
Will build strong relationships with key people in and around the market to provide the sharpest and most insightful coverage. That means having the ability to call people in the market directly rather than having to rely upon press teams and other gatekeepers.
Works with section editor, other senior editors, and the marketing and production teams to make sure coverage reaches the biggest possible audience and is presented in the best possible way.
