Training and Onboarding Content Developer (Contract)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Training and Onboarding Content Developer to lead the development of standardized, engaging, and effective training, orientation, and onboarding materials for approximately 30 manufacturing processes within our plant. This role will ensure that all training content enhances employee skills, ensures safety and compliance, and improves retention through a seamless onboarding experience.

 

This is a 6-9 month contract assignment with a strong focus on content development, validation, and implementation of training materials that support our workforce.

 

Key Responsibilities

Assessment & Validation

  • Evaluate existing work instructions, onboarding guides, and training materials for completeness, consistency, and usability.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and HR to validate accuracy, compliance, and alignment with company policies.
  • Identify gaps in onboarding, training, and employee engagement resources to enhance retention.
  • Training & Onboarding Development
  • Design an engaging onboarding program introducing employees to company culture, values, and expectations.
  • Develop structured orientation modules covering product knowledge, quality, safety, and manufacturing fundamentals.
  • Convert validated work instructions into structured training guides, job aids, and step-by-step visual work instructions.
  • Develop high-quality, visually engaging materials using graphic design best practices to improve comprehension.
  • Produce video-based training modules and SCORM-compliant e-learning content for LMS integration.
  • Create first-week and 90-day onboarding schedules to enhance employee integration and engagement.
  • Mentorship & Peer Learning Integration
  • Establish a buddy/mentorship system for new hires, providing structured on-the-job training.
  • Develop guides for mentors and supervisors to ensure consistent training experiences.

 

Software & Tools Implementation

  • Identify e-learning and video content creation tools (e.g., Articulate, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia).
  • Utilize graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva) to enhance training visuals.
  • Ensure compatibility with the company’s LMS for tracking and reporting.
  • Deployment & Continuous Improvement
  • Upload materials to the LMS and configure structured learning paths.
  • Conduct pilot testing with employees and supervisors to gather feedback.
  • Develop a train-the-trainer (TTT) program to ensure supervisors and trainers can effectively deliver content.
  • Establish a review and update cycle to keep training materials current and relevant.
  • Project Deliverables
  • Onboarding & Orientation Materials (Welcome guides, videos, first-week plans, checklists).
  • Manufacturing Process Training Materials (Work instructions, step-by-step visuals, e-learning modules).
  • Engagement & Retention Resources (Mentorship frameworks, manager onboarding guides, check-in tools).
  • Trainer Development Program (Trainer certification, ongoing development workshops, peer coaching network).
  • Full-Scale Implementation Plan (Deployment strategy, pilot testing, and continuous improvement initiatives).
  • Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in training content development, instructional design, or manufacturing training programs.
  • Proven ability to develop engaging, interactive learning materials for a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in e-learning software (Articulate, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia) and LMS platforms.
  • Experience with video-based training development and multimedia content creation.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally with HR, operations, and engineering.
  • Knowledge of safety, compliance, and quality standards in a manufacturing setting.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with experience in train-the-trainer programs preferred.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in SCORM-compliant content development for LMS integration.
  • Background in lean manufacturing, process improvement, or workforce development.
  • Certification in Instructional Design, Training & Development, or Adult Learning.
  • Graphic design skills, including experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or Canva, to enhance training materials.
  • Video editing expertise with software like Adobe Premiere Pro, Camtasia, or Final Cut Pro, utilizing best practices in training video production.
  • Familiarity with interactive content design for better learner engagement (e.g., animations, quizzes, simulations).
