Purpose
This role is for an experienced reporter to take a leading role in GlobalCapital's coverage of the US securitization market from the publication’s office in New York City. The Senior Reporter will produce a full range of editorial content from scoops and news through to opinion, analysis, data and podcasts, for both the daily online and weekly edition of GlobalCapital, and support more junior colleagues in their reporting.
GlobalCapital senior reporters produce a broad range of editorial content, mostly written, on their specialist sector of the capital markets. In this role, the Senior Reporter will be an ambassador for GlobalCapital within the US securitization market and within the newsroom, with a particular focus on asset-backed securities and both residential and commercial mortgage-backed securities.
Dimensions
Principal Accountabilities
- Be the most senior member of a team of three journalists covering the US securitization market, and thus become a key figure in GlobalCapital’s push into ABS, RMBS and CMBS. Together, the team of reporters will identify and report on the most important deals, themes, people moves and other industry news — while providing the most engaging and accurate analysis possible to provide readers with a unique take on the markets. Senior reporters are expected to be able to write in great depth about their subject and to cover their market with a significant degree of autonomy.
- Contribute to the full range of market coverage — from hard news, to analysis, to opinion, to features — in the house style and to tight deadlines. This means delivering original, valuable stories that GlobalCapital’s readers find essential to do their jobs, thus helping to maintain GlobalCapital’s distinctive editorial voice and reliable reputation.
- Support the US Bureau Chief with a meaningful input on and shared responsibility for the direction of the section. Where appropriate, weigh up how GlobalCapital should explore or delve into new coverage areas or focuses within securitization.
- Build and maintain a high number of deep relationships with key people in the US securitization market, ensuring that GlobalCapital is at the forefront of its subject matter. This will involve frequent in-person meetings and travel to conferences across the US.
- Alongside the US Bureau Chief, support the two US ABS and MBS reporters in their learning about the market, the build-out of their contact base, and the development of their story purposes and angles.
- Represent GlobalCapital at industry events, sometimes as a moderator, both to provide coverage and to enhance its reputation as part of the fabric of the markets it covers.
- Support the US Securitization Awards with ideas for categories, attending awards pitches, helping to scrutinize votes, being on the editorial judging panel for pitched awards, sharing contacts where appropriate, and presenting at the ceremony.
- Be the voice of the US securitization market within GlobalCapital's editorial team, able to pitch stories and champion special report and feature ideas.
- Appear on and often lead the Securitization Podcast, Another Fine Mezz
- Provide coverage for other market sectors where appropriate and required, to both develop skills and allow the most consistent coverage. A senior reporter may be expected to deputize for a Section Editor if required and appropriate.
